any ideas for blinds etc for a slit window?

I have a 5ft wide window but has only a 9inch drop in the bedroom, any ideas on what would look best for a covering?

I'm thinking most blinds would take up most of the space with the top housing of the blinds, so may look daft? I would like to have the covering inside the recess too.

What about a Swedish crochet blind or cafe kitchen blind on a rod within the recess?
Decorative window film, perhaps a stained glass look?

Could you have one made? I think you'd be surprised at the cost. I've just had curtains made for my living room and the cost was about the same as buying a nice set anyway, plus she made me some cushion covers too. If you ask in your local Laura Ashley they might give you details of a local seamstress (that's how I got mine).

Do you want specifically blinds or curtains? I don't think it would be hard to install a curtain track, and it won't take up much room either (unless there was no room to begin with!)

If you want to do a bit of DIY, you could find a table runner that's long enough and sew or iron on the curtain tape. Sometimes it's cheaper to use fabric from another product than to buy fabric to custom make yourself, but it all depends on the project.

do-it-myself may be an option, do you think a roman blind would work in that space? I'm thinking I could use velcro to attach the blind?

Made to measure Venetian blind. I have similar Windows in some of my rooms. I got blinds made from blinds supermarket online - they were quite reasonable. The top fixing bar is about an inch thick.
