Cost of replacing garage door?

Has anyone had a garage door replaced recently?

I am getting a wooden one replaced with a metal up and over. Any idea of the rough cost? I have been quoted 650 for removing wooden one (it is rotting), removing the surround - and replacing it with a metal up and over.

Apologies for piggybacking on your post - but I'd be interested in the answer to this one, too!!

I paid £600 for a new up and over door to replace old wooden doors in a yard wall. The price included the frame and constructing a wooden frame above the door which was then covered in PVC(?) cladding because the original doors were approx 10ft high.

    This is in the NE.

I had double up and overs replaced (kept the original framework) and it cost £1,200. (Fortunately an insurance job)

You do need to look at the make of door & locking systems, too, not just the £$£$£

You can get a door for £199 B&Q/Wickes, but it'll be Coke tin thin & hardly anything to it. really.

We've had several from Luton Garage Doors, 01582 720573, in the flats around here, always best price & good service. They are a well established family firm.

Have a word with Gary, there & I'm sure he'll give you an idea. They cover a wide area, so worth a call.

My garage door + frame all collapsed as the car was being reversed out today.

Result = extra loud crash, broken front indicator fitting and housing, deep long dent in the bonnet with black scratches where the garage door dug in and then slid off. Anyhow, I'm trying not to think about that and concentrate on getting the garage secure as it's open at the moment.

Just been quoted £600-ish + VAT (so around £700) dependent on choice of door for a new garage door + frame. It's a new door because it's better to have a slightly wider entrance and lose the massively chunky and flimsy wooden posts that collapsed in the first place in favour of a metal frame.

I'm looking into a fibreglass/PVC door - is this worth it? Not sure about prices - the quote was for a metal door.

Any recommendations for companies to do the work? The quote above is from a local guy but I've also got Everest coming round tomorrow. Appreciate some advice as I've not had to do this sort of thing before. Well it's not every day this sort of thing happens! :rotfl: Cheers
