  • If it were me, I'd just send them a letter saying
I enclose the sum of £0.00; please send a receipt.

    Here's a suggested template letter: https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/03%20EW%20Harassment%20by%20creditors%20and%20debt%20collectors/Page-07.aspx

Before you get to the letter, you should read through this and the following pages as it will give you good information for your letter:

If you are thinking of going to the Press, don't bother with anyone local. You'd need to go to the Personal Finance departments of The Telegraph or The Sunday Times to achieve anything. A bit like the FOS, they won't do much if you haven't properly complained already.
  • I have properly complained, as mentioned I went thru their complaints department.

Don't go down the route of suggesting you will invoice therm for your wasted time - this is both laughable and unenforceable in the real world, and will make you look foolish.

For, such a scheme to work requires an offer and acceptance - you will never get the latter, so don't be fooled that this is anything other than needless busy work.

Did you make a formal complaint and head it as such? As I said before with this you can then escalate it.

Apologies about my suggestion to start with the local press, if any of them, as I said I have no experience of dealing with them and thought you'd have a better chance at getting your voice heard.

If you just want the situation to stop would it be worth overpaying them? Transfer 1p to them. Then ask for confirmation the account is satisfied and a repayment.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

  • i thought of that, but that would mean that I then have accepted the debt. and with them demanding it was paid in full by november 17th, i wouldnt want to go down the road of paying any extra charges
  • Have a look to see if they have a Twitter account and tag MSE into it :)

Just noticed they have a branch near me :)

Sorry, didn't realise that you had. All you said was that you emailed their complaints department, they ignored you and that you are now going to write to the head honcho. I don't think they have taken your contacts as complaints. I would have written a letter, marked it 'complaint', and sent it it by registered letter, not by email.

Anyway, if you believe you have complained, and if 8 weeks have passed without you getting a satisfactory response from them, you can now escalate the matter to the FOS http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

In the meantime, don't lose any sleep over this. You have got it in writing that you owe them 0, they can't take you to Court over it, they can't give you a default on your credit file, and eventually they will have to apologise and offer you compensation for the distress caused.
