Can a person have 2 credit files based on name even if address & D.O.B are same?

Am just wondering if it's possible to have 2 different credit reports and files based on different surnames, even if it's just by 1 letter difference on the surname..
I know I have a credit file under a name that my bank has..But am wondering would I still have the same file if my bank changed the letter of my surname to match my passport name?
I don't know if this is correct but I have been told that as long as date of birth and address are same then you still have the same record of credit files even if surname is spelt slightly different with bank then passport.

The bank will report a change of name to their chosen credit agency. So you wont end up with a new credit file.0

Incompetence, data keying errors and the like are all capable of opening a parallel universe - it might not last long once someone human looks at the data and fine tunes it, but it is only linked when there's several matches that removed doubt (in the mind of the data controller).0

I don't know who told you this, but the Passport Office doesn't report to CRAs. Banks do. And one doesn't have to have a passport to have a bank account.Star-Light wrote: »I don't know if this is correct but I have been told that as long as date of birth and address are same then you still have the same record of credit files even if surname is spelt slightly different with bank then passport.
If a bank makes an error (or you when applying for an account), then everything is possible. How different is 'slightly different'? How long is a piece of string?0 -
Different as in just 1 word of my surname. The first name is same, so is address and age. What I was trying to ask was if I was to re-apply for a Credit Card under my proper name like the one on my passport then would the outcome of the application still be the same as when I applied for a Nationwide Credit Card where I passed the soft checks and was greed in principle? which is basically a done deal if they can get my passport/ID to go through for fraud checks...So am just a bit worried by re-applying it may show my information on credit file/agencies a bit different...
If I was to open a bank account under my passport name then would credit agencies show different information i.e. lenders, scores, rating, debt etc then the files which are based on my other name that I have with a current bank account?
When bank changes my surname albeit 1 word would credit rating agencies show differnt info? would things change such as over-draft?0 -
Stop guessing and before applying have all errors corrected with the bank and CRA(s) - like you have already been advised in one of your endless pointless threads.0

Yes I've done that man! The bank has been notified and corrected...My questions were if anybody has more experienece in this kind of situation, where by would credit file look different? would the outcome of me re-applying for a Nationwide Credit Card Account be different? am assuming it won't as rating agencies would have been notified by the banks right about the spelling error, so when I apply again all things will stay same, I hope hehe! what if the agencies don't know about the name and the bank does a credit check under my passport name? anybody guess what the outcome of that be? would it still be same? or would they say file don't exist or whatnot?
Put it this way...My overdraft was given through a credit check (not 100% sure) but my Capital One Classic Card has my proper name i.e. Passport, so am assuming they did a credit check...So the credit files both came up, but how? if one file has different name then other? or did they match it with d.o.b and address and first name?0 -

Have you had a copy of your credit file from one or more of the credit reference agencies?
Chances are that both variants already appear on your credit file, one as an alias of the other.
If you want to be certain before you make a new application then get a copy of your file to check.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
