Hamster cage advice -updated youtube clip

You have a very lucky hamster there! Someone on the hamster forum mentioned a cage called Mamble on Amazon - which is maaoosive - at £40. A lot of hamster space for the money. Of course hamsters have short lives, but buy some decent equipment & you will have future prospective tenants queuing up to move in!! Too many buy a starter cage, which they end up replacing so better to start big! Pet stores have a bad habit of selling pet homes at pocket money prices with more emphasis on aesthetic good looks than a suitable home for a living creature.
I made a bin cage for my hammy - loads of help on the forum & works out to a lot of space at low cost & easy to clean.0 -
Look second hand (if you are happy with that).
ZooZone 100cm cages come up regularly and are a great size for hammies. I got one off ebay for £10 and I can fit a 12inch Wodent Wheel in which my happy is very happy to run in!I just enter and forget...hoping to win something!

Thank you happysaz
I have looked at eBay and Gumtree, nothing locally yet. I will probably order the Arizona cage from Zooplus, if I can't find anything secondhand as this seems to fit one of the 12" wheels too. The hamster is thankfully very confident and is happy to be out of the cage and running free in my sitting room/dinning room in the evenings. We make sure at least one person is with her at all times. I leave the plastic top off her cage so that she can get into food & water or just go back in for a rest. She seems to ignore wires & cables thankfully, but does want to unwrap the Christmas presents! Long term we need a better solution in case we are all out one evening. 0 -
Hi Have you ordered a cage yet?
If not, I HIGHLY recommend the ALASKA cage from Zooplus
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/hamster_cages/hamster_cages/284288 ... perfect size for a Syrian
I have ordered my second one at the beginning of this week and its already been delivered
I also have a 10% off code if u want it?
Zooplus also have brill customer service!!!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
Bit late to this thread but I also bought a rubbish starter kit from PAH in the first instance, our Syrian outgrew it within a week! We bought the zooplus alexander cage, it was expensive at £70 but worth it as never have to upgrade again.
I recommend this wheel (you might be able to find it cheaper on zooplus), it's pretty quiet too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00365P9NY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s000 -

I would love the code thank you. I am going to order the cage and the wheel this weekend. Hamster is back home with dd. She is had the hamster out yesterday evening for a long time, so hopefully we have made sure she's had plenty of exercise in the meantime.0 -

I would like to thank everyone who has helped. A new Alaska cage is on the way from Zooplus ( at a 10% discount thanks to a bigmomma for the code). Once the cage arrives, I will update the thread.0
