With speeds like that you are always going to get buffering I'm afraid. Neither homeplug nor a router with a more powerful wifi signal are ever going to cure that

  • Ttoli, yes internet today is pretty ropey out here. I've got a couple of homeplugs which I haven't needed, you are welcome to try them out, and see if they help at all.

It's a digital connection, it's either there or it's not, internet speed is not affected by the signal strength unless you have zero signal and therefore zero bandwidth.
WiFi speeds are very dependent on signal strength. Try reading some of the tests done for WiFi routers and their performance over various distances before posting incorrect information.

True if it's always like that but the OP says it was after a thunderstorm. With no noise margin or attenuation quoted we have no idea what the line could be capable of. Rebooting the router will, with any luck, restore something like the original sync.

Unfortunately if there is anything like BT's brain dead DLM involved in Cyprus the target margin may have been increased (reducing the sync) and it could take a while for downloads speeds to get back in line with sync.

My speeds in Cyprus were even worse than OP's earlier in the day, getting well under 1 Mbps, then a powercut for a few hours, and electric and internet back on.
Download now 5.28, upload 2.74...this is still pretty naff, especially for download speed. Hopefully Ttoli will have better speeds now.

If I remember correctly from when my SIL and daughter where at Akrotiri internet in Cyprus was not only expensive but had pretty dire speeds and reliability anyway.

Used to be really horrific when I moved here at first about 5 years ago, but it has improved and prices are better. Problem is whenever there's thunderstorms, and we do still have power cuts from time to time, usually thunderstorms and power cuts go hand in hand. I'm paying approx £24 per month for up to 20Mbit. Think we were paying about £40 per month for 1Mbit when we came here originally!
It's back to normal for me now, with 15.6 Mbps download and 3.82 Mbps upload on latest speedtest.
