As the title says my last default has just dropped off my credit file but I still have a bad credit rating. How can this be? I never miss payments on anything.

what do your actual credit files show?
forget the meaningless credit score0 -
No defaults. A couple credit cards I'm paying off and my car loan.0

Are you on the electoral roll? Are your cards near their limit? Do you only pay the minimum payment? Do you take out regular cash advances on your credit card? Don't worry about the score, only you see it, just ensure the data is accurate.0

Yes I'm on the electoral roll and the credit cards are fairly towards their limit but I make regular payments and one is ust minumum and one I pay more on.0

how do you know you have poor credit ?
have you tried and failed to get credit?
whilst it's best to pay a much as possible on the debt with the highest APR, it is best to always pay a little more than the minimum on both (all) cards as this will show on your credit files.
whether you get credit will depend upon your payment history as shown on the credit files, your total level of debt, your income, percent of available credit used, whether you pay only the minimum etc.0
