Im currently converting the loft for use as an occasional bedroom and storage space. Id like to get 3 windows installed in the ceiling. Are there alternatives to Velux? Are they as good? My thinking is that velux windows might be more expensive ONLY becuase they are well known.
Thanks
Thanks

Fakro are widely available, there is Keystone and others.
Fakro claim advantages on some things but in my experience Velux do offer customer support and an excellent back up service. As an example, FIL Velux recently shattered. It was 12 years old. I advised him to contact Velux Technical Support. The response was that it was outside guarantee, but as a goodwill gesture a fitter would be there in two days to repair and check it over ... all FOC. In reality, this is what one pays for when purchasing Velux. Well done Velux!0 -
We have Keylite ones in our extension;

My brother is foreman for a building company and they are the only brand they use now. He says they're just as good as velux. Ours have been in for over a year now and we've not had any problems.0 -

I had a Velux in a previous house and the accessories were great and readily available.
I had a blackout interior blind but also a mesh exterior blind you could operate from the inside which really kept the sun off in summer.0 -
Doesn't seem much in the price in the size I'm considering ( unless I'm missing something - possible)

Just my intuition, I was placing a large Velux order and found all the national builders merchants were quoting almost identical prices. I think Velux are strict on their margin control, and discounts. However, the traditional way round this has been grey imports, and this could be what is occuring with web prices. If so, it is "Buyer Beware". There may not be the back up and service that I have mentioned if the Velux have been sourced in somewhere like the Ukraine.0 -

It depends on how you buy them. Because we went through my brother, he got his builders companies discounts, so the trade merchants he bought them through gave him a big discount, different to the pricing on their website.0
