Used car - gearbox needs replacing after less than 6 months

Hello, looking for some help with this. Family member purchased the car (a skoda 2004 model) from a garage less than 6 months ago and paid around 2k. Unfortunately the gearbox seems to have completely failed and we're now looking at several hundred pounds for a new one. At the time the car was sold the dealership assured…

I do actually believe the dealer said this, as unlikely as it may be - car dealers do tend to have their own interpretation of mathematics.

If you had asked him to put in writing that
a) The car is 100% perfect
and
b) He personally guarantees the mileage is accurate at 40k

what do you think he would have done?
