We transferred both gas and electric accounts from Scottish Power to the Co-op and received confirmation on 1/8/2014.
We had a balance of £140 credit with SP and waited for this to arrive. After 2 months contacted SP who said that the electricity account hadn't been closed but they would now close it.
Still no refund after 3 weeks so emailed again ( telephoning is pointless, I can never get through) I was told that the account was still open but they would be closing it and forwarding any relevant refund
We are very confused and annoyed, no idea who is at fault, SP or the Co-op and how on earth we get back the £140 SP are sitting on.

  • Has the company explained why there has been the delay on closing your account? Was there a difficulty in transferring the supply or is it a delay in generating a final bill?

No , there was no explanation, just that the electricity part of the account hadn't been closed by Scottish Power.

I would ask Scottish Power for the date the supply left them and then ask Co-Op for your supply start date. It sounds like there may have been a delay in transferring supply but it would be worth checking when this transfer happened.

If it is a delay in them producing a final bill then I would ask them for when your final bill will be generated. If you are unhappy with the answer then send a formal written complaint.

Once they have done a final bill there should be no reason for them to delay the refund.
