can i backup from iOS6 (iphone 4) to itunes then load onto new iphone 6?

as above, never updated the ios on my iphone 4, and now the 16Gb is almost full ive got a new 64Gb iphone 6, how hard is it to back up to itunes then reload everything to my new iphone 6?

im useless with itunes, so a total novice :o

    It should be backing up anyway, just plug the old phone in and check, then plug the new one in and register it with the account, it should pull down all the stuff backed up.

    While it is possible to transfer a backup between devices, everytime I've tried it the new device always behaves oddly enough I've just wiped it again and installed everything clean.


    Additional its not a perfect image type backup so some content will be missing...

    I've done this many times and restoring upwards to a newer model of iphone always worked fine. You'll need to move to IOS 7 which is also just fine. Just make sure you've done a full backup of the old phone.
