What info from search goes on file?

Hi there,
Maybe the Experian expert can answer this one?
If a person applies for a service and a credit check is done by a lender/phone company, etc to verify his creditworthiness, does the data submitted to carry out the search end up on the customers credit file if it was not on there before?
E.g if the customer has just moved house and not changed his address with other products yet and gives a new address to the company verifying his identity what will happen?
Will the new address be added as a linked address on his credit file if there happens to be another record of a person with the same name and DOB already on the system?
Or, will he be refused credit because there is no record for the address he has given?
Also, if a person requests a credit report to find out what it says about him for a previous address, will the current address he gives on his request end up on his credit file as his new address linked to his old address even if it was not on there before?

Assuming you provide the company about to do the search with your previous and new address then yes this will link the addresses on your credit file even if not linked before.
If there is no other way to verify the new address (no other accounts registered/ not on the electoral roll) then it can may you more likely to be declined, or mean further checks may be undertaken.Or, will he be refused credit because there is no record for the address he has given? Also, if a person requests a credit report to find out what it says about him for a previous address, will the current address he gives on his request end up on his credit file as his new address linked to his old address even if it was not on there before?
Yes, if you provide details of both addresses to the credit reference agencies that will link any accounts held at the previous address.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi Ifal,
When you make an application for credit then the lender may record some of the information provided on your credit report. The consent for this is usually given by agreeing to the terms of the credit application.
They may record the previous addresses information supplied as a linked address entry your report. Financial associations to other individuals may be recorded if you have made an application for a joint account.
If a lender sees active accounts at a previous address, they may decline, as this can be seen as an indication of fraud.
When you apply for a credit report, links to previous addresses that you supply may also be recorded on the report. This helps to link your information together and help lenders to build a more complete picture of your credit history.
Hope this answers all your questions!
Kind Regards
