Here we go again - do we buy a pair of expensive shoes and watch my 8yo grow out of them, or some cheapies that last 2 weeks (if we are lucky!).
Does anyone have any suggestions for good practical long lasting and affordable shoes for a little boy??

Clarks are having a massive sale at the moment, so you could get decent quality but cheap ones (about £5ish for leather ones). http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=512820
Personally my daughter grows out of shoes faster than the cheap ones take to fall apart, so we always go for the cheapies! Also, if you find a really good deal (like £5 for Clarks), buy a pair in each size, so if he's a size 4 now get a 4, 5, 6 and you wont have to worry about getting new ones for a few months.0 -
Sorry but I always go for the more expensive option and keep my fingers crossed that they don't have a huge growth spurt!
Unless you're really unlucky, if the shoes are properly fitted, there should be about 3 months' growing room in them for a school age child.
I'm so anal about the children's shoes:o0 -
My son is a sports addict and ruins his school shoes in weeks by kiccking balls etc. His school doesn't allow them to wear trainers, only black shoes. It drives me mad and gives him knee problems from running around in inadequate shoes.
So I have tried to find trainers which look like shoes in all black and the only sort is very expensive, so i totally understand your problem. Add to that the obsession with labels that kicks in at 8 years of age.
Clarks is considered "naff" by my son and something cheap is considered even worse than that. it is a constant struggle.0 -
Re: Clarks - do you have a Clarks factory outlet shop near you? They have some really good bargains.

Thanks for your input - my youngster's school has to be 'normal' style shoes, he'd never get away with the trainer type unfortunately (though he'd love too!!).
Thanks again...

me and my wife have always got either clarks shoes whilst my daughters were at primary school ,
now my eldest has started high school and all the girls wear pumps , which imo are only one step up from wearing a paper bag on your feet , they don't offer any support to the feet ,0
