Can anyone advice me on what to do?

When the landlord comes, look at him quizzically and take a brief sniff of the air in his direction and say "have you had dysentery for long? He won't mention any smells in your place after that :D

Was the pan yours? Or did it belong to the landlord? You may have to buy a new pan but apart from that, just do as others have said and keep windows etc open until the smell disappears (which it will)

Don't buy "Shake and Vac", just get a tub of cheap talcum powder and sprinkle that on carpets, then vacuum up.

Student flats often smell horrible anyway so I'm sure that your landlord really won't notice anything amiss!

I must say that you seem to be a very civilised and diligent student wanting to do the best here. I can only agree that you seem to have caused no damage apart from the saucepan maybe.

When I was a student I lived in complete squalor - burnt food smells were the least of the problems in our shared houses.

I did a lot of bleaching in my bathroom recently, and two candles for 30 minutes cleared it all up.

^ Lol! No, I was spraying dettol mould remover on a double duvet (a last resort if you were going to throw it out anyway) and yeah, it's very strong! It worked though, after washing it thoroughly in the laundrette, I now have a clean, mould free duvet!

Pleased as punch, considering the excessive lengths I put myself through to keep it :D

He managed to burn vegetable soup so recommending lighting candles is probably not a wise suggestion.

Still in 20 years time when his kids do something similar he may well be lenient.
