Car booster seats on cheap flights???

Does anyone know if ryanair and easy jet allow car seats to go in the hold for free. I have two 8 year olds and we have a hire car, so we need two booster seats. Going away for Xmas - yay :)

We are flying ryanair out and easy jet back - I have tried looking on their website but they only talk about infants (which being 8 my children are no longer infants).

Does anyone have any recent experience of them allowing booster seats to be put into the hold for free with older children or do they charge??

Thanks...

Spoke to Ryanair on live chat - they have said the booster seats will be free for both the children if placed in the hold.

Still very confused by the easyjet website. I must have read and re-read it 10 time. It says 2 items (buggy, car seat, travel cot, etc) are free per 'young child' but nowhere does it specify what a 'young child' is!

Infant is up to 2 years old and it says that a child is under 16 but then it says a 'young child' can have a car seat in theh old for free.

Would that include my 8 year old - is 8 a young child?

Anyone tried to take a booster seat on easyjet recently?

This FAQ answer on easyJet website does not make any mention of "young child" (though they do in the travelling with children section), it says they carry seats free of charge.

I haven't actually taken car seats on easyJet (usually book car hire with companies who give them free), but I would think that any child who legally needs a car seat (under 12 or the height limit) would qualify as a young enough child. Under easyJet T&Cs a "minor" is defined as under 14.

If the budget allows, why not buy bubble bums?

Inflatable car seats which pack into hand luggage. Found they meant I had free hands when needed.

Mine went everywhere with me in UK too-cinema, giving friends lifts, passing onto babysitters easily and quickly. Really handy piece of kit when compared to bulky booster seats. www.bubblebum.co.uk
