Connection Problems with Windows 8.1

Hi, I do hope you can help.
I have an Advent Laptop which came with Windows 8,(64bit) it is about 18 months old. It worked great until it updated to Windows 8.1 after which it would only connect to the internet for 2-3 mins at a time. After reading up on the internet and finding others with similar problem I took my computer back to Windows 8. Unfortunately it automatically updated to Windows 8.1 about a week ago and a few days ago I started getting the same problem. I have again taken it back to Windows 8 and turned off automatic updates this time. However the Windows app store will not open and IE will not show webpages.
Any advice would be appreciated.
