What can I do to stop an unknown person from inheriting my dad's estate?

Has anyone considered OP making a claim against stepmother's estate in due course under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975?
OP, check out this link, it might help you understand your (presumably still hypothetical) situation http://www.hughjames.com/service/contested-wills-trusts-and-estates/inheritance-act-claims/#who-can-make-an-inheritance-act-claim0 -

Why do you think there is any chance considering the OP was not a dependant? or is it a solicitor pocket lining exercise? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Little or no chance. The username is very apt considering the above suggestion.

Thanks both, just highlighting that there are options, that's all. If OP, on consideration of their own situation, decides that there are little prospects then that's fine.
There have been recent changes to the law which may have affected OP's dependency (and are you absolutely sure OP is not a dependant on the limited information provided?)
I take the view that, when someone asks for information, you provide it to them and allow them to take a view; rather than assessing the limited information provided and telling them they have no chance. That's the beauty of the internet; information for all0 -
my wife keeps pestering me to make a will , but i have told her that i have had a stainless steel large roof rack made to fit to my coffin , because i am takeing the fuxxxx with me:D, she keeps reminding me that she will dig me up:eek:, surely that will not be allowed:mad:, what do other people think , can i stop her?, shes had more than her share anyway,:A0

My dad died fifteen years ago and although his will did provide for me at the time, the bulk of his estate, including his home, which he paid for entirely and which is now worth a lot of money, went to his second wife who is now quite ill.rogueylawyer wrote: »Thanks both, just highlighting that there are options, that's all. If the OP had any chance of claiming to be a dependent, it should have been done when the father died, not when the father's beneficiary dies.
As the OP was 'provided for' at the time of the father's death, it's hard to see any way a claim could be made on the stepmother's estate.0 -

Agreed for the most part, but situations do change, and it will of course depending on various factors as set out in the act. OP may well glance them over and think 'not a chance' but at least they won't worry - or come screaming back here in a year's time if they know something we didn't!0 -

Spend it all and enjoy it, that's my plan0 -

The father died fifteen years ago.
No-one on here is giving advice as a professional. If the OP doesn't want to pay for legal advice, ranting about something later on will be a waste of energy.0 -

You know, I came over here looking through the threads because my own mother died two weeks ago and I was going to look for a little help and support myself.
I think I'm in the wrong place.0
