I'm a college student who does three days of college. I get jobcentre allowance while I look for work and while I do that I do voluntary work forbade charity shop while doing a nvq level 2 retail on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. On the 21st November I missed a appointment with the jobcentre. But I turned up on the Wednesday thinking it was in that day. They gave me a piece of paper explaining to me to write my reason on why I wasn't there. I wrote I didn't realise my appointment was on Friday I thought it was on wednesday. They sent me to my advisor who booked me in for an appointment. On this Monday gone I had two letters sent to me. One being that my reason was not acceptable and the second saying that they had sanctioned me. Which means I can't get money from the 19th November to 16th December 2014.
I been to the job centre again and they gave me a jobseekers ers allowance and employment and support allowance. Hardship provision
Which I have to fill in.and send back.
Can anyone give me advice please?

Your reason is not sufficient - you wouldn't forget to turn up to work. You need to complete the hardship form, which unless you are in a vulnerable group will be paid after two weeks.
How many hours are you doing at college? I'm surprised they have not picked up on this.0 -
I thought students get grants? I never claimed JSA or any other benefit while I was at college or uni.Britain is great but Manchester is greater0

16 to 18. 5 hours, I am also doing a nvq course whilst doing work experience which was given to me by the job centre.
P.s. I'm am 20 years old
also they stopped me four weeks money, is that normal?0 -

On JSA the max hours you can do at college is 16, more than that & you wouldn't be classed as being available for work. Also, the jobseekers has to take priority over the course, as in if you were offered a job and didn't take it due to it clashing with college.... You'd get sanctioned.
You should have declared the course & took a learning agreement from the college in. Have you done this? & declared the vol work to them?
Yes the 4 week sanction is standard, have they done it for availability or just missing the appointment? Please be nice to all moneysavers!

They knew that I was doing more than 16 to 18.5 hours when I signed on. They said yes I need to sign on. The job centre gave me a work experience at a charity shop Where children was supposed to be 6 to 8 weeks. When I went to sign on they said I could do a Nvq retail course. the course is placement only in the charity shop that I was already at which means I don't need to travel to a different college.
It's a different college to the other college course I'm doing.0 -
Did the JSA tell you your appointment was on a different day in advance of the appointment?0
-
Yes the Jobcentre adviser had told me in advance. But I was at work experience, it was busy and short staffed and I totally forgot.0
-
in those circumstances, i dont think you have any alternative bit to accept the sanction.
you had an advance appointment at the job centre.
you forgot to go.
