Change of size - what are my rights?

A few days ago I bought a onesie online (on the Debenhams website). There were only 2 sizes available (18 and 20) and they were discounted (about £10 off original price).t
Both sizes are too big for me, but reading reviews I saw that customers were advising to buy a bigger size as they were quite tight fitting, so I decided to go for size 18. I figured if it was really too big I could just exchange once the smaller sizes were available.

I received the onesie, and it is indeed too big for me. Strangely enough, smaller sizes are now available but there is no discount.

Am I able to exchange the onesie in store for one my size? I wrote to customer service and they refused to exchange as 'online discounts are different than those in store'. But I am not exchanging for a different item - it's the same exact one, just a smaller size?

I bothers me a bit to have to return this one and have to pay nearly double for one my size...

What can I do?
London Fashion Week tickets, Clinique Facial treatment set (I see it as a win :P) Mario Power Tennis Wii game, Aura by Swaroski perfume, Theatre Tickets to 'A woman alone' :T, £1000 with Kerrang's Scream4Cash, Links of London Wedding Themed Bracelet, Chipmunk O2 launch party tickets, Adidas All In gig tickets, Water For Elephants Double Bill tix

Realistically if they are refusing a goodwill gesture, theres nothing you can do other than keep the item in a size too big or return it for a full refund.

Often retailers give discounts on sizes that arent selling so well or that they have surplus stock in. They're free to pick and choose which items they offer discounts on and on what terms. Sorry.

You can return for a full refund but you can't return and expect a different size for the same price.

Apart from returning it, getting a refund then purchasing the correct size at the full undiscounted price, not much.
There is nothing stopping you from asking in store, but be prepared for them to refuse your request.

Many retailers both online and on the high street sell off items at a discount if they have an excess of certain sizes or styles that don't sell as readily as others and this seems to be exactly what Debenhams have done in this case.

Had you bought in store you wouldn't even be entitled to a.refund because you bought the wrong size

But since you bought online you can get a refund under DSR

You might want to read the entire thread before responding in future - OP is sorted and happy with the resolution.

Can one post be any more incorrect?

1/. Irrespective of buying in store, the OP has the right to return unwanted or unsuitable goods to Debenhams because this is their returns policy and because it is advertised as such, they have to abide by it.
Any term or condition made known to a prospective customer before entering into a contract forms part of that contract.

2/ How can the OP return under the DSR's when they have already exchanged the item in store?
