Barclays overdraft

Hi, this is my first post, I'm always on here but never posted before so sorry if I'm doing this all wrong. I'm really looking for advice with a situation with barclays bank.
on october 30th/31st I made a few payments to companies totalling around £6,000 (paying off mortgage arrears and the like) once I'd made all the payments I checked my online banking to see what was left and had around £20 left.
About ten days later I checked my account to see if my monthly money had come in and saw that there was £5k in my account which was around £3k more than I was expecting, my statement didn't show anything extra coming in so I assumed it was an early payment with christmas coming up.
Using the money in my account I was able to pay off the rest of my debt leaving me debt free for the first time in 7 years as well as buying some christmas gifts for my 2 young children.
After another week I received a letter from barclays saying that they never actually took the money from my account in october as they believed a lot of it to be fraudulent, and as such if I stated the payments were genuine they would take the money from my account once confirmed.
I know for a fact that the money left my account as I checked my balance after making the payments and also have confirmation letters from all the companies I paid stating they received the payment made on the 30th/31st however barclays have now taken payment from my account leaving me £4300 overdrawn with no overdraft limit.
I spoke to barclays to try to arrange a repayment plan but was told it had to be repaid within 6 months at 705pcm or go into debt management but that would mean closing my account and all assosciated accounts which would, I assume include my business account that I use for work. Now I appreciate that I spent the money so I need to repay it but surely there must be another option that will allow me to pay it off and keep my account.
HELP!
Thanks xx

I can't offer any suggestions to spirit up a few grand, but I do want to ask why you thought you had an early payement when you checked the statement and there was nothing 'extra coming in'?
This just does not make any logical sense to me - did I misunderstand? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
The only other option is to borrow money elsewhere or, possibly, at the same Barclays and repay the overdraft. Start with asking Barclays to convert your overdraft into a loan. However, this can be a problem if your credit history is really as bad as it seems to be judging by the mortgage arrears.
Next time instead of just looking at the balance, check the transactions before spending the money - especially if the balance is some £3K bigger than you expect.
I still don't understand how the extra £3K spent turned into £4.3K overdraft. Do you?0 -
It sounds like you need to do a more detailed reconciliation of your accounts. Barclays can't just randomly take the money for themselves. Have any of the firms you were trying to pay received money twice?0
