Flex plus - joint account

Hi,

Looking at upgrading to the Nationwide flex plus as a cheap way of getting breakdown cover and travel/phone insurance.

I live with my partner but we aren't married so as far as I can see if I upgraded my personal flexaccount to flex plus she wouldn't get any of the benefits.

If we upgrade our joint account to a flex plus will we both get the benefits? Effectively costing us only £5 each, per month?

Seems too good to be true. Anyone in a similar position? I tried the Flexplus FAQs but it doesn't make it clear.

Thanks

Ive just upgraded our joint account to Flexplus. It’s completely irrelevant whether you are married or not. All the insurance products cover the Account Holders, so if you and your partner are the named account holders, then you are covered.
  • Excellent, seems that a Flex Plus joint account is effectively double value then! Twice the benefits, same price!

    Thanks

Plus if you can fill the account with the maximum £2500 they pay interest on it'll cost you even less per month after receiving it.

Most of the insurances cover the account holder(s) and their family; ie one parent can have it in their sole name, and their partner and the rest of the family are covered.

I wonder if you had a joint account with someone from another family (you would then be financially associated with them), it might be possible to stretch the benefits even further.

I have a sole FlexPlus account, all the insurances, bar breakdown, cover my OH too.

A joint would be exactly the same, plus the breakdown would cover your OH.

I'm pretty sure in order to cover your partner though, it has to be a civil partnership or marriage IIRC.

Kids are obviously your kids, they're covered up to the age of 21 if they're still in full time education.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

That's hit the nail on the head, exactly my purpose for the thread. We're going for the joint account to make sure we both have it, thanks all.
