£53k Increase in Stamp Duty For Me

So, 2 weeks before I was due to buy the house I am renting (for £1.99m) I am hit with the the bombshell that the Stamp Duty I have to pay has gone from £100,000 to £153,000.
I think a renegotiation is in order.
In my case, there's no other buyers on the horizon, but I do want to buy the house.
Clearly this is going to have a negative effect on £2m houses, but by how much on average?

I'd like to show some sympathy, but I can't. I tried, I thought about it ... but, sorry, it's just not there.
If it were an extra £500 you had to pay on a £50k studio flat I'd say "awww". But it's not is it. Sorry. Better luck next time, eh.0 -

We the MSE members feel your pain. Many of us priced out renters would like to help fund you stamp duty costs but we need to help fund Myrlene Class's Mansion tax costs on her garage first.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.
