Not really a problem as such but just wondered if anybody had come across this problem.

We decided to go with British Gas last year due to the fact their tariff was cheaper (than N Power) at the time and also we would be able to have a Smart Meter installed.

After contacting BG we were finally given a date when somebody would be around to fix the meter and describe how to work and what it did. I was looking forward to reading the meter usage and telling my wife to dry her hair naturally instead of using the hair dryer :D
When the man came to assess our current meter he told myself that they could not fit the meter due to the fact it was placed on a wooden board with no room to fit it. We had new fuses fitted few years back as the old one's were basically waiting to cause a serious accident anytime soon.

As I say it's not really a problem just wondered if anybody else had a similar problem.

  • The smart meter is approx 17 cms/ 7 inches tall, a couple of inches longer than most electric meters. would you say yourself if there was room for the meter to fit.A new backboard could be used if thats the problem. It seems a bit of a weak excuse. Usual excuse used by meter fitters is, too awkward to get at ( boxed away under kitchen units etc ) or....get this..too near the gas meter. A lot of meter fitters , turn up and give the meters a 20 second glance and walk out if the job looks a bit tough for them, or , like mine did, turn up, after I took a day off work , and came without a gas fitting nut after he d run out of stock. Poor to say the least
