Parking on white lines by speed humps

I sometimes visit a friend, who lives on a road that's got speed humps on it. For a few feet either side of each hump there's a white line painted - see link below :

Is it illegal to park on the white line ( not on the hump itself, just on the line before it ) ? There are no signs to indicate that there are any restrictions, and since they're white rather than yellow, I reckon there's no problem with parking on them. But something's just niggling in the back of my mind - what purpose do the lines serve ?
I know, for instance, you can't stop on the white zig-zags by a zebra crossing, but what about these ?

Believe its just an "edge of carriage way" marker and so in itself doesnt prohibit parking. Obviously check for any other signage in the area that creates restrictions0

I think they're just there to discourage people one wheeling the speed bump.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thanks - that's handy to know ( and there's definitely no other signage to indicate any restrictions ).
It's the old problem - my mate's house is right beside the lines, so to park directly outside his house I'd be on the lines. I have no problem with parking further down the road, on a spot where there are no lines - but the person who's house I then park beside gets annoyed because that's "their" parking spot.
Yes, I know they have no right to a reserved spot, but I just want a quiet life, don't want to antagonise people needlessly
Thanks again.0 -
Always looks funny to me, but see them with lines indicating a parking bay so allowed to park on them.0

Be careful parking near speed humps: most drivers try to straddle them, and may catch your car as they swerve around it if you are too closeI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
