Upgrade EK - Business Class

Hi,
Having seen a thread on upgrading (why is this only dawning on me now:rotfl::mad::mad:) I now want to try and upgrade my upcoming flight. I am looking for hints and tips on the best way to go about doing that. I posted this on the flyer talk website, no replies yet, so I'm hoping someone on here will be able to steer me in the right direction:
Details:
first time flying with Emirates.
Family of 3 travelling BHX-DXB-BKK-SIN-DXB-BHX, March 2015
EK038 - BHX to DXB - 12E
EK372 - DXB to BKK - 44B
EK353 - SIN to DXB - 20F
EK037 - DXB to BHX - 20A
I have (will have) 10500 Skywards Miles and 6000 Tier Miles
When asked for EK details for my 2 sons I supplied my EK details.
Family Bonus members earn 20% of Skywards Miles shown which will be credited to the Family Head.
Questions
1. I thought I would get their miles transferred onto MY EK details/total, but from the above I suspect it's more than likely I will only get 20% - so which is it?
2. I am attempting to upgrade the 1st leg of our journey, i.e. BHX - DXB as this is an over nighter and I will have worked all day and straight home to catch flight. I've managed to figure this bit out, I think! It seems like EK will allow me to upgrade to Business for £1,959.30 (BHX-DXB-BKK) should I wait, what are the chances of getting an email with discounted rate, or is that a "how long is a piece of string" type question?
3. If I do decide to upgrade all the flights what is the best and "cheapest" way to do this, if any? I tried to upgrade the return journeys SIN to DXB and DXB to BHX, couldn't get a price on the Emirates website.
4. Is it cheaper to purchase upgrade at check-in/before check-in, if so when etc.
I'm new to all of this so I'm clueless. Thanking you!

We got upgraded TRV to DXB for £59 each, a 4 hr flight ,and were offered DXB to GLA for £269 a couple of years ago.
Offer was by email about 3 days b4 flight.
I dont remember being offered any upgrades on outbound flight though.0 -
Hi,
I now want to try and upgrade my upcoming flight. I am looking for hints and tips on the best way to go about doing that.
The only way to guarantee an upgrade is to pay for it on your original booking.
Even high status flyers travelling in a non premium cabin are not guaranteed an upgrade - paid for with cash or points.
Furthermore, if there are no redemption buckets available, you could have a million points in your FF account and it will make no difference.
That said - EK are pretty good at dishing out operational upgrades (or at least they used to be before I changed my allegiance), however, the dates you are travelling are low season and the cabins are unlikely to be oversold, reducing your chances of an 'op-up', but may potentially allow a paid upgrade - which may or may not represent good value.0 -

Out of curiosity who did you go with?
Is it REALLY low season, I thought it would fall into high season as it's over Easter Holidays?
My current options are:
BHX-DXB-BKK = £1950
SIN-DXB-BHX = £3396......NOT going to happen!!:mad:0 -

Isn't Easter 2015 in April?
I have had 2 op-ups with EK - both from DXB to LGW/LHR however I have not flown with them for some time after they kept messing around with seat allocations.0 -

Yes Easter is in 3 & 6 April, schools close 27 March for 2 weeks.
Thanks, for the info.0 -
Hi All,
I'm so annoyed as it seems there is nothing I can do, well there is, I could just stump up the cash as quoted by the airlines, why does Google Flights do this???? I posted the following on the flyer talk forum...Hi,
I made my original first time booking for Economy flights for myself and 2 sons.
27 March 2015 - BHX - DXB
28 March 2015 - DXB - BKK
8 April 2015 - SIN - DXB
12 April 2015 - DXB - BHX
Original reason for booking departure from BHX, at 20h30 I could easily fit in a full days work and leave for holiday.
I now want to upgrade to Business Class - Return. (initially was just going to upgrade BHX - DXB - BKK for an extra (+-£2K))
Playing around with flights from LHR (Same dates) any time, I could upgrade to Business Class for the full Return and it would only cost me an additional £3154.
I'm 101 miles away from LHR, how do I get the Free Transfers, do I just pay extra from my address as I'm out of the 70miles free transfers radius?
Departing from LHR would mean a 6 hour stop over, that sounds painful, any advice?
Followed by this oneThank you all for comments.
My two sons are 14 and 20 so spa it IS!
I managed to call Emirates last night, and this is where I am utterly confused.
I used Google Flights to check flights from LHR, when I called up Emirates they said to upgrade would be an additional £7000 for Return from Heathrow! When I checked this via Google Flights I would only have to pay £3/3.5K to upgrade for the return Journey, so I'm back to square one!
I hope this link works https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...3;q=lhr+to+dxb.
I called both Emirates and Qantas both quoting different pricing (way more than shown on this link)..........Any and all assistance greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
I've just called both Emirates and Qantas and both of their pricing is £5k/7K more than the Google Flight pricing!
Suggestions, advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks0 -
How have you worked out an upgrade price of £3-3.5K on Google Flights?0

Rational thoughts for an infrequent flier, but not necessarily true in reality.
That's what I suspect, but let's see what the OP comes back with.0
