    Just a quick update....

When reading this take into account that this is for fun only and I would have spent (lost) this money gambling on football:

I have bought more shares in Egdon Resources - The more I read about this company, the more I think that they could have a great future.

Graphene nanochem - Not bought anymore of these.

Goldplat - bought some of these, can't remember my reasoning for this.

Nasstar - Bought some of these.

Tern plc - Bought some of these.

This is far more interesting than gambling on football, I actually get quite into reading about each company and checking up on them each week for any news or updates that may affect the share price.

Remember - I am not a serious investor, this is just for fun!

Did you get charged for buying these? I get charged ten quid a trade... I have 270 burning a hole in my dealing account, which is change after intelligently buying some tesco shares.... I really want to spend it because I, like you, enjoy watching the value of my shares rise and fall. And fall. And fall.....

I wonder if the egdon shares will improve after the news regarding fracking today?

That seems to happen because following you usually requires a leap of faith. And I don't do faith.

The point I am making is that there has been fairly strong index tracker advocacy on this board and others of it's type for the best part of a decade and certainly long before Vanguard turned up in the UK. I don't think it's any more extreme now.

You could even say that trackers were something Virgin began when they introduced theirs in around 1995. I remember buying the Direct Line tracker shortly afterwards and at the time a lot of the hype was again about trackers beating active managers so it's nothing new.

Whoever put their £500 into Tesco has done pretty well though!

Okay, so fast forward to now....

graphene nanochem - dropped by half of what I paid!
Gold plat - not much change
    nasstar - not much change
End on resources - not much change
tern Plc - doubled in value
Quadrise - bought some of these
Europa oil and gas - bought some of these

Again, I'm no expert but I reckon that now is a good time to be buying into oil and gas firms?

Shale gas must be the future??

As £500 isn't a great deal in investment terms I'd "just for fun" try my hand in a nice cheap penny share, there's some massive potential gain to be had through doing your homework. Take Fitbug for instance, just a month or so ago it was trading at 0.5p, then announced news of a deal with Samsung and boom...up over 5000%(5600 actually but who's to a few hundred percent), that'd give you £25k return on your £500.

Now that's what I call fun(not like boring funds, trackers...blah blah), but then I like a bit of risk

aaaand its come back down to 2.38p now :D

The time to buy into gas was before fracking became so prevalent and the gas explorers had fields they could not really exploit - and then all of a sudden they could, while oil and gas was still quite expensive, and the companies would shoot up to high valuations.

Then it was realised that by exploiting shale gas and fracking, the US was able to become pretty much self-sufficient; the consequential effect of this "reduced demand" and "massive supply" potential in the world markets has caused a seismic shift (excuse the pun) driving energy prices to the floor on a long term basis - nobody is going to un-invent fracking.

So, investing in now-current energy technologies such as shale gas, doesn't strike me as a particular no-brainer.

But if it's just a bit of fun and you're not making the investment under a misapprehension that you're an expert, then go right ahead :)
