Hardware repairs

I need to price up getting my HP MediaSmart Server EX490 repaired. Does anyone actually do hardware repairs. IT tech services don't seem to fix hardware problems.

Some clue as to what is wrong would help us to assist you here...

Not even sure what it's for, it doesn't seem to do anything that a cheap PC wouldn't do (with the right software and setup).

    Hi

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002PK0XHS/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=#productDetails

    £399.00 + £7.65 UK delivery

    £499.00 + £7.65 UK delivery

    £649.00

    + £7.65 UK delivery

prices for a refurbished model, then a software swapout.

If the data is still there then perhaps a simple hot-swap of HDD's.

If not try a restore from backup.

A few more details on the problem would help to clarify any suggestions offered.

You are too far away for me to offer any viable help.

  • What happened was I had it plugged in and connected and we had a power cut. The device was not connected to a UPS and when power was restored the device powered on but the hard drives don't spin up. I have since put all hard drives in a caddy and they work 100%

Sounds like it needs a reset.
The system partition is apparently on the closest drive to the power button, so make sure that's correctly located else it'll be bricked.

Not sure how you would reset as there is no hardware option.

Most likely PSU, but as HP have abandoned the home server line, and its a custom sized PSU (and from experience of mine a pain to swap) you probably need to buy a used one on Ebay and swap them out.

If I remember correctly both power and data come via the MOBO , so it may be the mainboard is sick as well, and without the right tools testing it will be hard.

It had a brand new PSU from HP as a warranty swap out
