  • Tried moving the arial around in different places in the house? Could be some minor interference... But yes could also be the fact that the signal is being reduced by using the same arial....

The cost of a new aerial depends on what type you have to have, whether it will work in the loft etc. I suppose the best thing to do is to get the same type that you have for your own freeview box as it seems to work fine.
With so many aerials it may be better to get a really good one installed by a professional (with a power booster if necessary) and perhaps share the cost between you.

When I had my freeview aerial installed, I mentioned to the guy that I wanted to run an extra feed off it into the bedroom and he said that I would definitely need a distribution amplifier for that. Freeview signal doesn't like being split between two or more TV's.

Is it the old type coax?Certainly get a significant drop / metre with that. May need to invest in a wideband, high gain aerial and some double screened coax.

Aerials are sold almost exclusively by trade warehouses to professional installers. They *might* sell you one, provided you know exactly what you want. For example "a Group A 14dB for Crystal Palace". Don't expect them to give much advice.

You can also buy aerials at DIY stores such as B&Q and at leisure sales places that sell caravans. Again, don't expect any technical advice. And be aware that the aerials sold by these places tend to be general-purpose "wideband", which may not give optimum performance for your location. Also note that there's no such thing as a "digital aerial". This is like saying there's a "digital" tennis racket. There are different rackets to suit different players and there are aerials to suit specific locations.

There are many specialist mail-order aerial suppliers such as John Hardy in Birmingham or Satcure in Telford. These places will normally give you good advice by email if you provide sufficient information - especially your postcode. You can type in your postcode here
