Lost key = car right off
What a day, lost my only car key, locksmith tried replacement key but didn't work as looks like locks have been previously changed, therefore needs locks changing. Sounds like this going to cost more than the cars worth, my insurance company say they can't help as i didn't have key cover.
Was hoping to declare it a right off, any advice please.

Why has the insurance got to replace the locks?0

See if you can get one from a breakers yard. If they keep the keys for the cars that will be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new. Or check ebay as many people break their own cars and sell all the bits on request.0

When my turbo went I was hoping my insurer would buy me a new car0

Assuming you haven't got chips in the keys or any other nasties, adapt the locks to fit the key he cut for you:

The details will vary with different / more modern locks, but the principle is the same and not hard to do. The biggest time invoved is usually removing / refitting the locks from the car.0
