My mother was SSE for the Gas and Electric. She had applied for "The Warm Home Discount" 2014/15 and her application was accepted. She had a letter from SSE confirming this and advising that £140 will be credited to her Electric account by 31 March 2015.
However since then, her fixed term contract came to an end at the end of October 2014. We did price comparison and gone with E-On fixed 12 months contract that was advertised on Energy Club (MSE). At the point of application it did confirm that E-On does offer WHD.
Now that the supply has transferred to E-On, my mother contact SSE to find out if she will be receiving cheque for £140 in March 2015 or will they be forwarding credit to E-On to credit her account. But she has received reply from them saying that she will not get anything as she has changed the supplier. This is despite having eligibility confirmed and confirmation letter from SSE. They are instead asking to re-apply at E-but E-On web-site saying that they no longer offer WHD as their quota has finished.
Does anyone know if SSE is correct in refusing despite her application was correct at time and hence she has received confirmation letter. Am I not correct in thinking that once you are eligible, if you change your supplier they you should get the credit as cheque? If they refuse can my mother take this further?
When we requested the transfer, the comparison site was saying the saving would be £80. But if she now don't get the WHD money then in real term she is much worse off!
Thank you in advance.

The only people that can move suppliers and still get the WHD are the Core group who are on Guaranteed pension credit. Everyone else must still be on supply of the company that assessed them when the payments are made.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Your mother was in the first come first served broader group and as Joyful says your mother has broken the contract with SSE, SSE can not transfer that £140 cost to any other supplier. Core group is initiated and controlled by the DWP themselves and is transferable.

Sorry that she won't be getting the WHD, but it clearly states on the letter
That if you move house or switch supplier before the payment is made, your application will be closed.
Well thats what mine says from Eon.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I switched from one supplier to E:ON last year and made a late application for WHD as I knew it would not be transferred from my previous supplier. E:ON were fairly quick in accepting the application and I received my credit within a few weeks of the transfer.0
