Is there any way we could claim our money back from the stamp duty cut as I personally lost £1500 with only 2 days!!! I don't think it is fair because if I had known this by 21st November than I would set the completion date to be 4th December not 28th November... Really angry..

I'm in exactly the same position as you and it is extremely frustrating, but there's a reason why they don't announce these things in advance - if they said they were going to reduce stamp duty in one month's time, the entire housing market would grind to a screeching halt because everyone would wait to complete under the new rules. I am mainly annoyed with myself for not seeing it coming - last autumn statement before an election is an obvious time for giveaways. I sort of feel our solicitor might have warned us of the possibility too.

£1.4 million saved in stamp duty on £30million property in Surrey by rushing it through before midnight on Wednesday.

Stamp duty is a ridiculous tax. Simply taxing somebody for simply moving home is wrong. Why should somebody who moves home regularly pay more tax than somebody that stays in the same home all the time?

    Personally I'd either:
    1) put capital gains tax on homes - so people pay tax on the profit they make; or
    2) refund stamp duty on sales - so effectively you only pay stamp duty on "moving up".

You need slapping with the trout.

£750k property is no where near £50k stamp duty.
