  • For the many winners there are some losers and, having moved in October, would have been 3.5k better off if this had been the case. Seems grossly unfair to me and the most outrageous direct impact on our finances I've known a govt to have in one swoop!!!

    Yes that seems a sensible reason to not vote for them anymore. One of their changes has had a one-off effect on you so they lose your vote! Never mind their bigger policies or anything eh?

    No wonder this country is in such a mess :cool:

    Correction: one of their changes hasn't had a one-off effect on him, and that's what makes him sore...

    Seriously Mikeyjonesy, while I appreciate that it stings to have just missed out, would it have been better to leave the old system in place? If you can't benefit then no one should? Those who have already completed are neither better nor worse off than before but going forward the system will work a lot better for most people.
  • I'm absolutely devastated by the news. I'm £4500 down after paying £8250 SD on a £275k purchase which was completed less than 2 weeks ago. This actually makes me feel sick inside. Can anything be done about this? A process whereby you can re-coup a certain % of what you've paid depending on when you completed would have massively softened the blow. e.g. 50% refund on completions within the last month, 30% within the last 3 months & 10% within 6 months or something similar. I've spend everything I have on this purchase and stretched massively to buy my family the dream home and financial it's put a strain on the family. Can anything be done?

    No you're not. You agreed to pay it at the time, you've lost nothing. If the rules had changed the other way and the tax had increased, would you be asking for details of how to pay the additional £4500?

    It's had no impact on your finances at all. "Thou shalt not covet ...." is good advice, unless you wish to cultivate a toxic personality.
    Free the dunston one next time too.
  • Something wrong here. Try £1000000 on HMRC website. They say £43750 to pay. Numbers around that area do not agree with HMRC....

    Quite right, I had a typo for the percentage in the 925k - 1.5m range.

    Fixed now. Can you remove the equation from your quote so no one accidentally copies the incorrect one?

    We are completing next week on a £485,000 purchase and save a whopping £300, the man who is buying our home and owns several properties already is going to save £5000 , not sure how that is helping anyone but the buy to let landlords really?
