Does anyone know if this new rate applies in Scotland? I know the rates here are due to change in April anyway but will these new rates apply from now till then? Fingers crossed I'm due to save about £4500!
  • It would have made no difference on the house we brought for £500,000 in Aug. £15,000 in both systems. However, I guess the vendors would have tried for a higher price under the new system.

Looks like you're in luck! From the BBC website:
"From 1 April 2015, stamp duty in Scotland is being replaced by Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT). Until that date, the new stamp duty rates will apply in Scotland too."

I saw that, I'm trying not to get carried away though, national media often forgets that things are different up here! Wouldn't be surprised if the SNP reject it as they are incapable of seeing any good coming from Westminster.
  • oooh!! I will save £1130, which is fantastic.
    Mortgage overpayments 2018: £4602, 2019: £7870
    Mortgage overpayments 2020: £4620
    Mortgage 2017 £145K, June 2020 £112.6k:o
  • I'll be saving £4400 so am happy.

If you exchanged before 4 December but have not yet completed then you can choose whether to use the old rules or the new ones :)

Very Frustrated. Just bought a house at 130k. I paid 1300 in SDLT. Now it works out after midnight tonight it would now only be £100!!!! what the....
Do I feel slapped in the face. Surley you can claim this back..??anyone??

Don't be such a chump. Can I claim back what I paid in 1980, or 2007, or ....?
Free the dunston one next time too.

Chump...hardly. I have literally only just paid the duty i.e 2 months ago paying the 1% stamp duty...not 1980 2007......its about being realistic. Obviously going way back is a given, but some do offer claim backs for this sort of thing within a REASONABLE timescale. Read the post....only just paid it!!
Would just be good but its highly unlikely given this government.....just annoying esp when its now so low..!!
