Can you post link to the Which page that says Aldi won.
    http://press.which.co.uk/whichpressreleases/aldi-cleans-up-in-which-washing-up-liquid-tests/

I tried Aldi's product following the 2011 Which? report recommending it and was unimpressed so I have continued to buy Fairy when on offer. The 2014 report rates Magnum Premium slightly better performance and much better value than Fairy Platinum.

I vaguely remember criticism of Which?'s testing methods as not reflecting the way the products are actually used in the home but not that Which? used "the wrong bottle". Does anyone have a link for this?

I'll give Aldi's product another try when my stock of "cheap" Fairy runs out.

Oh no! I do hope this isn't correct or geordie goe's going to look stupid.
  • Fairy has a variety of attractive fragrances, but I had to stop using it because the fumes when I poured hot water on it made me cough and feel ill. I used Stardrops for a while and this makes everything sparkle but has no smell. I decided to try ALDI's w.u.l. and so far so good.

I may look stupid anyway, as I may be talking about last year not this year!

From what I remember between Which? buying the bottles of washing up liquid and doing the tests Fairy discontinued the bottle Which? bought and brought out a new version/type.

So Which? did the test using a bottle of Fairy that was not available to buy, and had to do the test again.

Also, most agreed the test was not real
life as they simply kept ashing dishes until the liquid "ran out" and counted the number of dished it washed.

Most people would not do this, they would just wash the dished they had.

So it would be a case of

Washing the dishes with bottle A and knowing it could have washed 50 more dishes.

Washing the dishes with bottle B and knowing it could have washed 55 more dishes.

Most people wouldn't care and think both bottles were the same as both washed the dishes they had.

Also, they were given points for price and cleaning and the points added together to give the overall score. Both bottles got almost the same score. So it is obvious that the aldi brand would have got more points for price, as it is considerably cheaper. Therefore it must have got less points for cleaning.

And the fairy would have got less points for price, therefore it must have got more points for cleaning.

So the true verdict is Fairy is better at cleaning, but more expensive.

As stated above, if it washes the dishes you have, do you care how many more it could have washed?

Washing dishes until the liquid runs out?

Cor, I wish I worked for Which? Magazine. It sounds like the most exciting and rewarding job ever.

Surprised one of them doesn't lose it and go postal. Or just make the figures up and go down the pub.

Get a dishwasher. Washing dishes is a soul destroying wast of time. :D

Aldi Magnum dishwasher tablets are great.

Can't prove they didn't, and we can't prove they did ;)

Which? are in it to make money, the less they spend the more profit they make. It would be cheaper to make up the figures than pay someone to do the dishes.

Also, how to you pinpoint the exact point where the washing up liquid has "run out"?

I think they said the washed until the suds disappeared, but did they ensure each bowl had the same amount of suds to begin with?
  • Haven't read the lot but Magnum scores 89%, Fairy 88% on Which. I subscribe and have just checked.

I used to buy Fairy but now buy Magnum. It is a little runnier but a little goes a long way. It doesn't dry my hands out like Fairy did.
