I'm not blaming the OP........ I'm saying what might have happened, you have to realistic about these things, because dealerships are often trying so hard to cover their own a**, that the customers needs go straight out of the window.
You are suggesting "what might have happened" by blaming the OPSounds to me like the coolant leaked, you kept driving, engine overheated, blew head gasket, AA dude refitted the pipe and refilled the system, but the damage was already done.
Could have just said sorry to the OP dude. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Right there. Clear as. Now, if the dealership were covering for each other as your post said, then surely they would blame the OP - they aren't they are taking responsibility.
Could have just said sorry to the OP dude.
Srsly?
Coolant leak ain't OPs fault is it?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

A lot of ill informed judgement and bias against VW's so far on this thread. As a whole VW make pretty decent cars, engines and transmissions. TDI's are historically considered to be one of the best diesel engines although the BMW diesels have probably overtaken them now on that front as they have with their newer ZF transmissions over the DSG. The newer TSI engines as of 2008 (1.4 TSI onwards) have won numerous awards. It won the 'international engine of the year' on consecutive years. I've driven the new mk7 Golf both the 2.0 TDI and 1.4 TSI and both were fine cars with good quality interiors.
The newer TDI engines that VAG are creating are still good but that said, I haven't heard great things from the 1.6 TDI. It apparently has very misguided MPG figures and actually gets the same, if not worse, as the larger (and better) 2.0 TDI's.0 -

Your doing exactly what the motoring press do, your focusing on new cars. If you gave the same journalist the same car 3-4 years later, they'd probably slag it off relentlessly.
I don't give a flying one about what engine won what awards less than a week after leaving the factory, if it's a bag of sh*te 3 years later, then what's the point?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Is Darkmatter that poster with no money who pretends he's bought expensive cars?0

That's the one. If you go by his recommendations it looks like he fits used brakes and tyres to them too.0 -

That's the one. Gets up at 3.55am specifically to comment on the reliability of VWs. I presume it's not easy to get a good nights kip in the asylum.0 -

I haven't really found any references to this happening on this year of Golf.
What evidence do you have to describe the Golf as "not a particularly reliable car"?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
