Die cutting machine

Options
I am thinking of asking my DH to buy me a die cutting machine for Christmas for my card making. I have never used one before and I haven't got a clue which one to get.

Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also which dies in your experience are the best too.

Thank you!!!!

I had a Cuttlebug for years and adored it, but this year I am having an EBosser for Christmas - I can't wait!!
  • The E-Bosser is fab, I have had one for nearly a year now. The thing I love (besides no effort!!) is that it will take any sort of dies from the thin metal to the Sizzix ones!!
  • Thank you both for your thoughts. I will have a look at the Cuttlebug - I think the Ebosser may be out of DHs budget :(

    How about sizzix big shot?
It is on offer at hobbycraft at the moment. I've had one for 3 years now (it is actually my big shot no.2, as the first one was slightly faulty but exchanged on warranty with no questions asked). I use it mainly for sewing (quilting and applique) and seasonal papercrafts.
I also recommend taking a look at sizzix.co.uk website for discounted dies.
  • Thank you Panterka! Going to look on the websites now!!!
  • I second the Big Shot. I've had mine for years and it takes all but the very biggest dies which I can't afford to buy anyway. For the price you will find it is very stable in use even though it takes up a bit more room on your table than a Cuttlebug.

I love my Bigshot, I used to have a Cuttlebug but I much prefer the Bigshot. Sizzix Bigz dies are great, as are Memory Box and Impression Obsession dies. Are we allowed to name our favourite websites for reasonably priced dies? If we are, I can recommend some.
  • After everyone's kind advice I think I'm going to ask DH to buy me the Big Shot. I would love to know your recommendations for websites Craftmad but I think it might be against forum rules :(

If you are buying from Hobbycraft, then make sure you (or rather your husband) signs up for the newsletter to get a 15% discount. This will be applied on top of the discount that they are already offering.

I bought one in a similar offer last year and haven't used it as much I thought I would but I got it for cutting quilting shapes rather than papercraft, so hopefully you would be using it more.
  • Does a die-cutter work well with fabric shapes?

Also would it cut through felt or even denim? I help out with children's craft and this would be a useful addition - if it works.
