Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but is HSBC one of the banks involved? And if so, does this mean there's no point starting a claim to HSBC at this point?

HSBC are one of the banks involved, but I got some money back from them just last week (or Monday even of this week, can't remember), and they must have been aware of the test case then, so still worth starting a claim, I reckon.

Seaxwyn - I think it's to do with banks in general rather than any specific bank. I'd imagine that every bank will use this test case as an excuse to delay resolving all existing claims etc, but I don't think this should stop anyone putting in a new claim - the banks still have to uphold the 'respond within 40 days or else' rule, so I'd go ahead.

I'd be interested to see if the banks are made to justify the reason why the charges are so high....

Edit - Just watched the Channel 4 vid from last night.... Wasn't that the same woman that Martin had to shut up before!?! Well done Martin (and Rajesh Merchandani!) for making that woman squirm.... I love the fact that they have apparently 'consulted the consumer groups', yet Martin, who (along with the CAG) is one of the biggest champions of this cause, only found out half an hour before...... If looks could kill, Martin, that woman would be brown bread!

I wonder if any of the banks actually turned up at court? Or do they have more respect for High Court judges than they do for their customers?
