Over 50 and booking a hotel room in the USA

If you're booking a hotel room in the USA check out whether they have a "Seniors Discount" I was aged 50 and booked several nights at an Econo Lodge in Clearwater, Florida. I got a decent discount because of my age. The discount was greater than that given to US military personnel and Government officers and much less than the going rate for the hotel. Well worth checking out if you're over 50 wherever you travel.

It depends on what you mean by 'normal'.

A senior rate is what the merchant (hotel, car hire company or whatever) decides and is often 50+. Most hotel groups offer AARP members senior rates, and one of the party needs to be 50+. The AARP is the American Association of Retired Persons but allows membership from age 50. Non-Americans can join, but the subs for Europeans are rather high.
