Wire transfer from foreign bank problem

Hi all,

I'm working as a freelancer in the UK and one of my clients is based in Canada.

Money wired from this client is generally late. Hence impacting my finances as money rarely arrives when stated.

This last one is a bit different at the moment as money got lost and my client's bank is apparently insisting money was credited to my account which it hasn't. My bank is saying they haven't received anything nor is there any transfer impending on my account.

The wire was sent 15 working days ago and we've been back and forth. My client is now saying his bank will recall the transfer and resend it in 6 business days once it has been re credited to their account.
But they also mention that if the money has cleared into my account (it hasn't) it would be taken back.

This worries me as I had a late wire payment received successfully from them, just a few days before the one that got lost was supposed to clear. I fear they might be either playing me for time as usual. Or plainly screwing me over and recalling a transfer that was done before the one I have not received whilst squeezing more work out of me.

Can a wire transfer be recalled by a bank from my account after it clears?

Thank you, for your time and comments,

Regards,

J

If you're that worried, inform them you will not do any more work for them until you have received the money owed.

    Simples!

What you gonna do about it if they don't pay you?

I'll bite the bullet for sure nothing I can do apart from stitching them up and float the designs I made for them on the net for free but that's not the question...

I've already informed them that if next payment due next Monday was late they would have to pay ahead for work so yeah they might be getting in a twist.

so yes can a wire be recalled from a bank account after 20 days?

    Thx
  • A wire transfer can only be recalled with your permission.

Speak to your bank and make clear they do not have your authorisation to reclaim funds from your account. It would be more helpful if you could distinguish the transactions somehow - the amount or preferably a unique transaction reference?

(Medium term, are there better/easier ways to get your money?)
