Can someone please advise. My mum has recently been diagnosed with COPD. It is the early stages and the doctor says she is ok to fly.
I plan on taking her away from it all for a few weeks sunshine to the Caribbean where it would do her the world of good. Does anyone know of insurers who specialise in people who are terminally ill and don't charge extortionate rates ??
I know it will be more expensive to get her insured but don't want to pay ridiculous amounts. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately insurance is rated on a number of factors and so there is no one insurer thats always cheapest for a certain circumstance.
The travel insurance section on here has a number of providers that MSE think are better. Use the comparison websites. See if there are any charities for COPD that have done deals with insurers who may be more sympathetic or at least more clued up.
I assume you wouldnt consider travelling without the COPD being covered but other items (ie a trip/ fall) being insured?0 -
Thanks, I will have a look. She is at the early stages of the disease but I want to stay safe.0

There are insurers that will exclude pre-existing conditions and so their premiums are not effected by whatever conditions you have hence the question on if you want cover for it. If you dont then this is the cheapest option but obviously if she deteriorates faster than anticipated then your on your own.
There are most likely insurers that will cover it but then the premium will be adjusted for the condition and presumably her age which given your destination could make the policy very expensive.0
