Liability insurance and ccj

Hi.
I wonder if anyone can give me some advised please,so worried.
I have liabiltiy insurance,(Im a cleaner)which I purchased on a compare website back in april 2014.
I answered no to all the questions about convictions,IVAs and bankrupt.
I then went on to press the BUY IT button.
Yesterday I had to make a claim for a table and some flooring that I damaged,I had a look on the main website and some other sites and see that they mention about ccjs, which I have got.
I read on the internet that my insurance will be void !!!
Is this true? I would be ever so grateful for some advised, worried sick.:(

It will depend on if (a) they find out or (b) if they would have declined you had they known about the CCJ0

Thank you for your reply.
so is this true ,they can decline/void my claim ?0 -

They could if they believe that you intentionally didnt declare it and therefore fraudulantly purchased the policy or if you accidentally didnt declare it but they wouldnt have sold you the policy had they known.
Both of these assume that they find out about it, if they dont then things will just carry on as normal and you just need to be much more careful when buying a new policy next year0 -
Insurers can and sometimes do reject claims and cancel policies when discovering that the application contained any false info.
In your case see if they asked about ccjs for the policy you bought as if they didn't you are in the clear.
(If you settled your ccj before it being registered then you can forget about it)0 -
Thanks for your replies.
keeping everything crossed that they dont find out,i honestly didnt know.
They ask the question on there main website about ccj, which I didnt click on because I didnt click on the VIEW tab,I just pressed the BUY IT tab.which took me to the payment details.
Thank you for your time.0 -
To be honest, I really would not claim and take the hit and pay for the damage myself.
I would be worrying myself into a frenzy.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

If they do find out, they would say you had defrauded them, they could actually prosecute and you would have no chance of ever getting any kind of insurance for anything for an awful long time.
Not knowing is not a defence/
To be honest, I'm not sure this is a helpful response. How many times have you heard of people being prosecuted for accidentally ticking the wrong box on an insurance application?
The scenarios you've described have an almost zero percent chance of being realised in the OP's case. She's not Bernard Madoff for heavens sake.0 -
Ignore this scaremongering, OP....... they could actually prosecute and you would have no chance of ever getting any kind of insurance for anything for an awful long time..
You won't be prosecuted by your insurer whatever the outcome of this!
If they find out, then the worst you can expect is your policy cancelled - and then only if they never insured individuals with a recorded ccj when you took out the policy, or if they take the view you deliberately lied.0 -
Quentin, if you notice, I did think I had gone over the topa little so edited my post.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
