Kindle Screen not displaying correctly

The Kindle screen is not displaying correctly -as in not text or pictures and just the odd patches across the screen when I turn it on.
Is there any way to reset it without using screen options(which I don't have) ? To see if the screen will return to normal after a re-boot. I suspect one of the kids may have dropped it but can't be sure on that !
If a new screen is needed does anyone know the best place to get one and about how much they are ?

was it bought via amazon?
worth giving their CS a call because even if it's out of warranty they are really good about sending replacements out.
afterall they do want you to continue purchasing their e-books against some other brand's.0
