quick question please can someone answer

hi everyone sorry another question about british gas.

today i got a letter from them addressed to me saying that an account had been set up (in my name not my partners) and gas supply to our new house will start 28 august. even though the second phone call i had made to them the women told me that it couldnt be put in my name as my partners name is on the tenacy agreement.it seems the first phone call i made the person on the phone had not payed attention as the letter implys that i wanted to switch suppliers and i was already living there.

so my question is does it matter whos name the contract is in? my mum seems to reckon it isnt and really neither me nor my partner cant see why this would be problem.

it would be a huge weight off my shoulders as i can get a meter fitted in asap now they have an account in my name and it also means that we wont be waiting as long for the gas supply. whereas if we get an account in my partners name then we will be waiting til at least sep for the gas supply.

hope this makes sense and someone can help answer my question so i can ring them first thing in morning.

no, it doesn't matter at all. my tenancy has been in my name for over 8 years and my partner (we not married) has got most the bills in his name (water, gas, telephone)

the important thing is that you live there!!

i have never ever known any utility company to ask, let alone check who's name the tenancy is in anyway

will be on phone to them asap tomorow then to sort out a meter and to cancel partners account before it gets fully transfered. you have just mad emy day saying that thanks lol.

i have never known this either. the house we are moving out of the gas and elec contract is in my name and my partner pays for it as i set up everything while he was 30 miles away sorting out notice on flat.same with most of our bills as he has a direct debit account and mines just a basic account and not once have they mentioned our tenancy agreement.
