Tesco @ Outlet, Banbridge - whats the point?

Was in the newly opened Tesco Extra store at the Outlet and i'm struggling to see the business reasoning behind it?
Its no more than 2 miles as the crow flies from the Tesco Banbridge store, so i cant see Banbridge people using it, and theres a new Tesco in Newry so i cant see Newry people coming down to it. Theres also a Tesco in Lisburn.
I just dont know where they expect to get the footfall to support it, given the Banbridge one seems to be staying open.
Or am i missing the point?

Perhaps it's the idea that people doing a Sunday browse around the outlet will then decide to do their food shop at the tesco ?
I wouldn't take a special trip to Jct One anymore, but I will browse it when I've travelled to the Asda and often spend a few pound there0 -
We've got three Tescos in town, one in the centre, one a mile to the east, one a mile to the west, now they're converting the old pub at the top of my road into a Tesco Express. Meanwhile up the road at Chatteris they've put a brand new store into mothballs, I would have thought they could stock the shelves at Chatteris for less than it will cost to convert the pub.0

The other thing that happens is that the big 5 will buy land space just to stop the opposition getting in
I used to do market research for the big 5 and in one mile stretch of high street I visited four sainsburys Not a tesco to be seen0 -
I was in there on Sunday.... happened to be passing so popped in.... and the place was heaving. That new Tesco also has a petrol station which is very handy for motorists on the A1. I can't actually answer the OP's question - why bother putting a Tesco there. I would imagine the other Tesco in Banbridge will shut its doors at some point.0

I think the tesco in Banbridge has outgrown its capacity .
I think the deal was it would stay open if tesco moved into the outlet .
Ultimately the customer will decide if both store are needed"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

Castlewellan, Rathfriland, Dromara, Hillsborough, Dromore and surrounding rural areas all might use it as it is handier than going into the town.
The existing Lisburn, Newry and Banbridge stores will get people from the towns and the ones in the town shopping, but the new store will attract those who don't go into the town.
My deliveries from Tesco come from Banbridge, I wonder if they will come from the old or new store now - haven't got a delivery in a while.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
So there's a Starbucks on every street corner and in between all the Starbucks, there's a Tesco.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

I live in Banbridge so went to look at new store out of curiosity. There seems to be an unused section to the right hand side. Can't help thinking that in the interval between planning and completion the way people shop has changed and now the new store is too large. It will be interesting to see how busy it is when the novelty has worn off and the big Christmas/New Year shopping trips are out of the way.I'm back to using the town centre store and the odd trip to Newry or Sprucefield for Sainsburys.0
