Replacement cooker switch

The electrician replaced my electric cooker switch. He used a brand I have not heard before AXIOM by CED. I do not use an electric cooker but use the socket to plug and listen to the radio. The new one I have got although it says cooker on the left and socket on the right, I find it will only work if I have the two switches turn on, the old one as I do not use electric cooker, I did not need to turn it on and other electric appliances work if I plug in the socket and turn on. I queried this to the electrician and he told me to leave cooker switch on it will not do any harm, and this must have changed the model. Should I make a fuss and call him again? Thanks

It sounds like you need to find an electrician who can tell the difference between the "supply in" and "cooker out" terminals on a cooker point.
Basically, he's wired it wrong. If he can get that wrong, I'd be worried that something else could have been done wrong.
Edit: This may be completely wrong - see below. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I am really worried now, is it possible for an electrician to get this wrong? I do not want to ring him and question his work until I am sure. Thanks0

I've had another read of your post, and I wonder if my original post was wrong.
Do I (now) understand that the socket works fine with any other appliance with just the socket switch on? If so, forget everything I said yesterday.
It may just be some odd quirk of the radio. If the signal's a bit weak, then all sorts of apparently unrelated things may make the difference between getting a signal and not getting one.If it sticks, force it.

I have come across cooker isolators where the cooker switch needs to be on in order to provide power to the socket outlet part.
The isolator is just that, something you only switch off in order to work on the cooker rather than switching it off at the consumer unit.
Relax, there is nothing wrong at all.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0
