Samsung M3 HD/home network

I've just bought a Samsung M3 portable hd, and was under the impression that by plugging it into my router, all computers on my home network would be able to access it.
So I've plugged it into my BT HH 4 via it's USB socket, but when I click on 'network' in Windows Explorer it's not showing. I've been into the Hub's setting and it's showing as being connected ok.
So................tech geniuses, what do I need to do to be able to see the hd and thereby access/use it?
Thanks in anticipation.

Open Windows Explorer and enter \\192.168.1.254 in the address bar, press enter, and the drive will be accessible from there.
If you want to see it as a separate drive in My Computer, you need to map the drive using the IP address shown above.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall

^^ It should appear in the "Microsoft Windows Network" > "WorkGroup" (or whatever you named your workgroup).
Or you'll want to "view workgroup computers"
In here you'll see a list of any device that's currently sharing folders.
The HH will be in the list.
If your using Vista or above, this is somewhat more difficult and less intuitive to access.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I've just found a bit of a peculiarity!
On my pc running Win7, clicking on 'Network' brings up my pc, laptop, and the HH. Also, at the bottom the hub shows again under 'Other Devices', but when I click on this, I get an error message saying something about no application. But clicking on the HH at the top of the Network screen, it then goes to usb1, and clicking on that opens the drive and I can dag & drop no bother.
However, on my laptop running Win8.1, my pc is no longer showing under 'Network', nor is the hub, but the HH is showing under 'Other Devices'. But when I click on that on my laptop, it takes me into the HH's details and gives me access to settings etc.
So what's that all about?David.0
