I guess you aren't getting anything like as long as you expected?
When I replaced my laptop about 4 years ago battery life was top of the list.
First off watching DVD/video or game playing isn't generally thought of as normal.
My battery will last between 8 and 12 hours depending what I'm doing. Open the lid, check emails, respond to those that need a response, shut lid.
Open lid edit document or update spreadsheet close lid.
Create meeting notes and or slides etc.
A bit of web browsing.
The above is my 'normal' and depending how much of each I do my battery will last as stated.
When working a 12 hour night shift doing Database upgrades or installs it never needed charging.
If there were going to be long periods waiting for indexes to rebuild and I wanted to watch a DVD then I took the charger. Watching a DVD reduced battery life by nearly half as does game playing.
Stuff in my normal list can be done with the CPU ticking over to save power, video and games need all the power the i5 CPU can muster and it flattens the battery like nothing else, anything that is CPU and disk intensive will. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
The life of the battery will depend on how often you deplete and recharge it and other factors such as internal and external temperatures.
I have a K52JC model which is now 3 years old and still on its original battery which charges to 97%. I deplete it once a month by ususally getting around 2hrs 20 mins of life from it but I have the Power4Gear settings on balanced.
The power management settings can be tailored to your individual use.0 -

If by deplete you mean fully discharge then you shouldn't do that to a LiOn battery.
Best practice is to never let it drop below 20%. Also they don't suffer from the memory effect so using 50% then recharging is not bad for the battery.
Google "li-ion battery best practices" for how to get the best from your battery. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Yes you are right , I should have been clearer, I usually charge mine as soon as it drops below 25%.0
