New car insurance policy, claim not settled.

Hi everyone,
I was involved in a non-fault accident last month (was shunted by a car on the A3). Luckily I didn't hit anyone else. However there are 6 other cars involved as it looks like they all went into the back of one another. My car was written off and I now have a replacement.
My NCB and insurance policy were suspended following the accident, and it has been reactivated now I have a new car. However the claim is still not resolved as the person who hit me is saying he only did because someone went into the back of him and etc etc. I completely understand why this is going to take a long time to resolved, ultimately it may end up that the person at the back is held primarily responsible. But until then am I stuck with the same insurer (I went through my own insurers) once this policy ends? And when looking for new policies when it asked if i've ever had a policy cancelled do I need to say yes?
It is up for renewal next month and I would like to change insurance companies but am doubtful this will be resolved by then.
Thanks for any advice given, it's been a stressful few weeks.

You could explain the situation to any new insurer you want to go with, and ask that should the matter be concluded as a non fault claim and your NCD is reinstated that they will amend your premium and refund the difference back to you from inception date.0

You are free to switch insurers and you dont have a cancelled policy to declare to anyone.
You do need to check with amount of NCD your insurers are going to say you have as if you've claimed off your own policy this is normally reduced initially until they recover their outlay. Occasionally insurers dont do this when they feel fully comfortable that they will ultimately get their money back.
If they have reduced your NCD then switching becomes more complex as you will need to speak to your proposed new insurer and see if they will allow you to add on the additional years discount mid year as many wont.0 -
Thank you both for replying, i'll bear that in mind and will get on with contacting different companies.Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0

Don't forget to claim any increase in your premium back off the at-fault party's insurance.0

Sorry saw this late, but I hadn't thought of that. My renewal is shockingly expensive and I can't find anyone else who will insure me because the claim is still pendingCurrent debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -

Yes but when I call up to confirm they then say that they can't process it. I've spent days calling lots of insurance companies.Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
Do a dummy comparison (fake name, slightly change address) without the accident to get some prices. Print them off. Renew with your current insurer. Once it is sorted out you can claim the difference between the best quote and what you paid, plus interest, plus any interest you paid on loans taken to cover your increased premium (e.g. credit card debt).
Basically, the idea is that if you were not at fault you should not be out of pocket. You should be put back in the position you were in had the accident not happened. I'm not on my second year of claiming for increased premiums, although this year it was only £4 extra.0
