Giving a meter reading to the Coop
Options
I left my previous supplier and moved to the Coop because it was cheaper.
I gave the Coop the meter readings on the date they requested.
On the 1st Nov I gave them new readings online, the gas reading was accepted but they seemed to think I was using 30 kWh a day for my electricity instead of my normal 11 kWh a day.
They asked if I was sure my electricity reading was correct and I said yes and it was accepted.
Today I decided to give them, after a month, new readings.
They are still convinced I am using 30 kWh of electricity a day, I had to say the reading was correct, however they now questioned that I was using 5 units of gas a day instead of 1.1 units.
Do they not know it is winter and I have turned my heating on?
Wait till it gets really cold and I start using 9 or 10 units a day.
Is this how it is going to be? and I thought I would be helpful giving them a monthly reading.
At least I am using less gas since I got cavity wall insulation, unless it is because the weather is warmer than this time last year.

I've yet to work out how they calculate their estimates but every time I give them a electric reading online they always query it and suggest they expected a bigger usage.0

I think that the facility offered is good ie it checks you are sure about your submission, advises how your usage compares with your norm and, I think, aims to avoid any shocks further in time. In short, it is meant to be helpful0

I too think its meant to be helpful, but its not very clever. It doesn't take account of the time of year and the onset of winter and of the heating season.
I fully expect it to ask me to confirm each time I submit readings, as our consumption will be getting more each month as the weather gets colder, then less as it warms up again and gets lighter in the spring.0 -
Every electric meter reading I've entered into co-op over 2 year has required confirmation it is correct. However they never queried the gas readings oddly.0

Each supplier seems to have its favourite. EDF favour electric and I usually have to repeat each reading I enter. Maybe its because they generate electric. There are also out of tolerance levels set only on the electric. The gas they are not interested in .British Gas are the opposite, Gas is their baby and they re not interested much in electric readings. They have strict tolerances set on gas imputs so any duff reads are questioned. No tolerances at all are set on electric. They are also unconcerned much about someone tampering electric meters. Their RPU section dont deal with electric bypassing .Gas is king because they produce it0
