The only fly in the ointment is my husband is the polar opposite. He just loves spending money on things he doesn't need.More clothes and shoes?more electrical gadgets to sit unused?More stuff?
My husband is the same, but I have got him to agree not to buy any groceries or household products. The cupboards are already groaning with stuff that needs to be used up first. What he buys gadget wise is up to him, as long as it stays in his study, workroom or shed. The rest of the house is a new stuff free zone, and I’ll be working my way through all the rooms to get rid of some of the old stuff too.

DH used to be a supermarket bargain buyer. He's gradually getting it and is 95% of the way there. The best trick? Fill him full of home made grub before he comes on the shopping trip, that with a wife holding the list and a disapproving stare ;) works wonders.

We're doing just that tonight (food of choice is lasagne) and not having visited this store much in the past, I am looking forward to seeing what tactics they have up their sleeves to sway the not-necessarily-savvy-Christmas-shopper.
  • I want a baby - thank you so so much for taking the time to reply to me, I am going to print that off and menu-plan accordingly tonight once the littlies are in bed. Managed to get the Daily Mirror offer for Ald! today so I am really pleased with that. If there are any baby bits you still need that are postable (if that's a word!) please let me know as I have plenty of things still lurking that are all in fabulous nick xx

My Dh loves parsnip and apple soup, or a nice thick butternut squash soup, lentil and bacon soup, cheddar cheese soup in fact most soups.

How about making a cauliflower cheese cooked until the cauli is mushy, I cheat and boil the cauli, then Idrain it and put into a dish, make the cheese sauce, pour over, top with grated cheese and pop under the grill.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Have managed to use up all the envelopes we got for my son's birthday party last month to send home made Christmas cards to the children in his class. A small deed but very satisfying to keep paper in circulation & not spend needlessly.

How lovely to hear of another Dachshund owner, we lost our Jasper a couple of years ago at the age of 13.5 and I miss him and his cheeky character so much. I would love to have another one but the cost of them is so high, going to take me a good few years to save up the £900+ 😪 (he kept our Border collies and cats in order, lol)

Has anyone seen the new PayPal advert? I can't remember the exact words but it's something along the lines of 'PayPal for everything you need and the things you don't', it is lovely to watch these adverts with my eyes open to the clever tactics used by companies to make us part with our money.

I don't take my DH or DD's with me when I go shopping, they get a last call for requests and if they don't ask for anything specific, they get what I have on my list for meal planning. I don't mean they are allowed to choose rubbish, they sometimes ask for things like soup, rice cakes (youngest DD aged 17 is a vegetarian so eats them with peanut butter), if they want sweets, biscuits etc that has to come out of their allowance.

Avast me hearties! I am enjoying reading all your posts.
Yesterday was a test for OH who is still under training...like a guide dog puppy.
We had to go into Manchester and had a couple of hours to kill.We went to the Lowrie Centre with Christmas money burning a hole in Hubby's pocket.
After so many years of "not buying it"I am immune but his eyes lit up at all the sale signs in all the shops. He latched onto a top which was "reduced"(yeah course it is).
    Conversation went like this;-

Me,"Are you going to try it on?"

    Him,"No,it's my size"

Me "what if you don't like it?"

    Him,with incredulous face "ok"

Him,"it's ok ,but not ok enough for £25 "

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A breakthrough ladies and gentlemen. In the past he would have bought it and it would have joined the ranks of other "bargain"clothes items which will never be worn and still remain sadly in the wardrobe adorned with their SALE tags.

It was nice to get into town and experience the Christmas buzz but we spent zilch as when we came to pay for parking it was free.

    My kinda day out.:)
     :
  • I too lived on Ensure high protien drinks when going through chemo and used to hallucinate eating spicy food :):):) I have quite a taste for curries ,chilli's etc but for 8 months they were off the menu.I remember once thinking I'll make a quiche and forgetting and putting some diced peppers in with the eggs, cream and diced up small bits of parmesan cheese (not a great result later that night !!!) although for the taste it was worth it having one uncomfortable night :):)
I too make apple and parsnip soup and its delicious with a very slight nutty flavour.Soup is pretty forgiving and if a spud is added along the way then it gives a really good texture and makes you feel a bit fuller.I do hope things improve as eating tasty food is one of the great joys in life
NSD at all this week and nothing on my list to buy at all.My purse is firmly padlocked :):)
  • I had a nasty and prolonged dose of flu in November, and haven't really got back to normal. I would normally have sent a few Christmas cards and small presents by now, but I'm not up to it - so it creates the perfect timing to excuse myself and declare this, and every coming Christmas, a gift-and-card-free zone. Instead it will be Jacquie Lawson ecards for everyone, and money for my offspring. I will be giving home made brandied plums to my aunt and cousin, and the purse, like JackieO's, is firmly bolted shut!
